About Hiei

THIS IS A GREAT PLACE FOR YOUR TAGLINE.

In 1141 (the first year of Eiji), Sanbutsuji Castle was built as the provincial governor of Hida Province.

(The oldest castle in Hida Province that existed in present-day Mifukuji-cho, Takayama City) The lord of the castle, Hida no Kami Taira Tokisuke, commissioned Hiyoshi Shrine in Omi Province and built it near Sanbutsuji Castle. Legend has it that when Taira no Tokisuke was out hunting, he found an old wolf. It is said that he shot an arrow to kill it, but found no prey, and that the arrow stuck deep into the large cedar tree.
It is said that TAIRA no Tokisuke sensed the power of the god, saying ``Oyamakui no kami must have saved the old wolf that was his messenger,'' so he invited Hiyoshi Okami from Omi Province as a guardian deity and established Hie Shrine. The large cedar tree at this time is called the large cedar tree of Hie Shrine.

AboutKita Wakamiya

THIS IS A GREAT PLACE FOR YOUR TAGLINE.

Keta Wakamiya Shrine, which overlooks the downtown area of Furukawa-cho, is widely revered by the general public as a special shrine with parishioners in the entire urban area. The Furukawa Festival (April 19th and 20th every year), registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, is the annual festival of this shrine. When you climb up the stone steps of the approach, there is a huge tree on the left of the worship hall in front of you. This is a large sawtooth oak, a sacred tree, and the top was broken due to a lightning strike in the Meiji period.
